What is a VSDX file?

The VSDX format is the default XML-based file extension for Microsoft Visio 2013 and later, replacing the proprietary binary VSD format. It utilizes the Open Packaging Conventions (OPC) standard (ISO/IEC 29500-2:2008), essentially structuring the file as a ZIP archive containing individual XML components, schemas, and assets. This modular architecture allows for interoperability and data extraction without requiring the Visio engine, distinguishing it from legacy object linking and embedding (OLE) structured storage containers.
