What is a PPS file?
The PPS (PowerPoint Show) format is a legacy binary file used by Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2003. Technically identical to the .PPT format in its Compound File Binary Format (CFBF) structure, the distinction lies in the file header flag that triggers the application to open directly into 'Slide Show' mode rather than 'Edit' mode. It encapsulates slides, audio, and transitions for immediate playback.
How to open a PPS file
PPS files are designed to launch automatically in presentation mode when double-clicked in Windows. To edit the file rather than view it, users must open Microsoft PowerPoint first and drag the file into the window. Third-party tools like LibreOffice Impress and Kingsoft Presentation also support this format, though some complex legacy transitions may render differently than in the original Microsoft engine.
