What is an ORF file?
The Olympus Raw Format (ORF) is a proprietary raw image container developed by Olympus (now OM Digital Solutions) for its digital SLR and mirrorless cameras. It stores the unprocessed data from the image sensor, including the Bayer filter mosaic information, alongside headers describing color temperature, saturation, and contrast settings at the time of capture. Unlike processed JPEGs, ORF files maintain a higher bit depth (typically 12-bit or 14-bit), allowing for extensive post-processing latitude regarding exposure and white balance adjustments.
How to open an ORF file
To view or edit ORF files, users should utilize OM Workspace (formerly Olympus Viewer), the manufacturer's dedicated software. Universal raw converters such as Adobe Lightroom Classic, Capture One, and DxO PhotoLab provide robust support with specific lens profiles. For free, open-source alternatives on Linux or Windows, RawTherapee and Darktable can decode and edit ORF files using the LibRaw library.

What is a PS file?
PostScript (PS) is a dynamically typed, concatenative page description language developed by Adobe Systems, serving as the predecessor to the PDF format. It describes text and graphics on a page using vector graphics instructions rather than rasterized pixels, making it resolution-independent. A PS file contains a program written in the PostScript language, which is interpreted by a Raster Image Processor (RIP) to generate the print output. It supports distinct imaging models, including Type 1 fonts and color separations, and became the standard for desktop publishing and high-end printing workflows in the 1980s and 90s.
How to open a PS file
Opening PS files requires software capable of interpreting the PostScript language, as modern OS image viewers do not support it natively. Ghostscript is the standard open-source interpreter used to view and convert PS files. For GUI-based editing and viewing, Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW can import PS files. Users can also convert PS files to PDF using tools like ps2pdf (part of the Ghostscript suite) for easier accessibility.
