What is an AZW file?

The AZW format is Amazon's proprietary eBook file type, fundamentally based on the Mobipocket (MOBI) standard but encapsulated with Amazon's digital rights management (DRM) scheme. How to open an AZW file

Due to inherent DRM encryption, AZW files are natively readable only on Amazon Kindle hardware and the Kindle application for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
