What is an HWPX file?
HWPX is the modern, open standard document format for Hancom Office Hangul, introduced to adhere to the OWPML (Open Word Processor Markup Language) standard, also known as KS X 6101. Unlike the binary HWP format, HWPX utilizes a ZIP-compressed container structure holding XML files to define content, styles, and metadata, conceptually similar to Microsoft's DOCX. This shift enables better data interoperability, programmatic parsing, and machine readability for big data analytics and public record archiving.
How to open an HWPX file
HWPX files are primarily opened using Hancom Office 2010 SE+ or newer iterations. Users can also utilize the Hancom Office Viewer or the cloud-based Hancom Docs service. Because HWPX is a ZIP-based XML format, the raw contents can be inspected by renaming the extension to .zip and extracting it, though proper rendering requires the Hancom engine or the Naver Whale browser's document viewer.
