What is a VSTX file?
VSTX is the standard, macro-free template file for Microsoft Visio 2013+, replacing the binary VST format. It relies on the ZIP-compressed XML structure (Open Packaging Conventions) to store layout configurations, styles, and themes that serve as a starting point for new diagrams. The format is chemically distinct from VSDX drawings only in its content type property, which signals the application to generate a copy rather than open the original file.
How to open a VSTX file
Double-clicking a VSTX file in Windows with Microsoft Visio installed triggers the creation of a new drawing based on the template. On non-Windows platforms, OmniGraffle (macOS) and LibreOffice Draw (multi-platform) can import the static template data, though specific formatting properties like complex data binding may be lost during conversion.
