ODT to MD Converter

ODT is the text document format of the OpenDocument standard (ISO/IEC 26300), maintained by the OASIS consortium. It employs an XML-based architecture where the document's content, styles, settings, and metadata are stored in separate XML files (e.g., content.xml, styles.xml) and compressed into a single ZIP container. It serves as the default native format for the LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice suites.

The file opens natively in LibreOffice Writer and Apache OpenOffice Writer on Linux, Windows, and macOS. Microsoft Word (2010 and later) and Google Docs also possess built-in import filters to read and edit ODT files, though minor formatting discrepancies may occur during conversion.

An MD file is a plain text document containing Markdown, a lightweight markup language created by John Gruber and Aaron Swartz. The format uses non-alphabetic characters (such as hashes for headers and asterisks for emphasis) to define formatting syntax that is human-readable in its raw form and easily convertible to valid XHTML or HTML. It is the de facto standard for documentation in version control systems like Git.

As strictly plain text, MD files can be opened and edited in any basic text editor such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit. For a rendered preview of the formatting, specialized editors like Obsidian, Typora, or Visual Studio Code are recommended.
